Legendary Giants coach’s Hall of Fame run comes up short

Tom Coughlin, the legendary Giants coach, was not elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Mike Holmgren, the former head coach of the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers, defeated Coughlin, who was one of the nominees for the coach nominee. The road may be considerably more difficult for the two-time Giants Super Bowl champion when he waits until next year.

Coughlin spent 12 seasons with the Giants and 8 seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an NFL coach. in an 8-3 playoff record in New York, including two Super Bowl victories against the New England Patriots, he guided the Giants to five postseason appearances.

Big Blue hasn’t been the same since departing the Giants following the 2015 campaign. They have twice qualified for the playoffs under five different head coaches, with only one victory in 2023 under Brian Daboll.

The steadiness Coughlin provided to the team will probably be missed as New York hires a new head coach for the upcoming campaign.

Starting in 1996, the Jaguars made four straight postseason appearances under Coughlin’s coaching. Under eight different coaches since then, Jacksonville has made it back to the postseason four times.

Both former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick are anticipated to be on the ballot for the upcoming campaign.

The former has 333 career victories, second only to Don Shula’s 347, and guided New England to six Super Bowl victories in nine chances. The latter led the Seahawks to a 2013 Super Bowl victory during his 18 NFL seasons as coach. With a 97-19 record and two national titles during his nine years as USC’s coach, Carroll was also an excellent collegiate coach.
