Little League: South Shore honors its LL World Series-participating team at awards gala (photos)

The Boys of Summer gathered one final time last year to commemorate their journey to the Little League World Series.

Last Thursday’s awards dinner at Angelina’s Restaurant in Tottenville celebrated the South Shore Little League’s 12s baseball All-Star team, who won the District 24, Section 3 South, NYS, and Metro Regional titles before traveling to South Williamsport, Pa.

Naturally, the Tottenville loop performed well during the roughly week-long tournament, finishing with a 2-2 record before losing to eventual LLWS champion Florida.

In addition to manager Bob Laterza and coaches Joe Curro and Steve Grippo, the team featured Joe Iraci, Chace Curro, Jason Rocchio (#5), Dean Scarangello, Jake Romero, Nicholas McLean, Vincent Ruggiero, Peter Giaccio, Alex Torres, Zach Weiss, Dylan DeGaeta, and Stephen Grippo.

The LLWS team was treated to a lavish reception at the Tottenville Loop, where they were presented with trophies, coats, and specially designed bats from the Richmond County Baseball Club as a way to celebrate their amazing journey.

Alexis Curro and team parent Jana Grippo planned the memorable evening, which was attended by over 70 people.

Dave Anzalone, Scott Porto, and Mike Grippo, the head coach of Tottenville’s varsity baseball team, were all praised for their involvement in the event.
