Man, 39, hit with gun charge; allegedly threatened to shoot victim on Staten Island

New York’s Staten Island. Authorities claim that a 39-year-old man in New Brighton threatened to shoot a victim while carrying a gun.

Police have accused Abraham Fawaz of being involved in the incident that occurred at his Gordon Place residence on December 29.

In the past, the suspect was found guilty of welfare fraud regarding a rental property.

A person with knowledge of the investigation stated that the victim of the gun incident was a male acquaintance who was 27 years old.

The victim was allegedly shoved in the chest by Fawaz.

According to the criminal complaint, the defendant told the victim, “I’m going to shoot you,” while holding a black revolver in his right jacket pocket.

The complaint states that later that night, authorities discovered a gray and black Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun in a closet in the defendant’s bedroom.

According to the allegation, Fawaz possessed the firearm without a permit or license.

Criminal possession of a firearm, assault, menacing, and harassment are among the charges against the defendant.

Fawaz was released on his own recognizance after entering a not guilty plea to all of the allegations.

The defendant’s attorney, Matthew Zuntag, chose not to comment at this time.

Fraud in Section 8 housing

According to the criminal complaint, Fawaz was found guilty on March 1, 2022, of fabricating company records and was given a conditional discharge and reparation by the state Supreme Court in St. George.

Prosecutors claimed that Fawaz obtained public assistance for a Clifton flat, which he then subleased, defrauding the government of $13,000.

The conspiracy allegedly operated from April 1, 2017, to July 31, 2018, according to an indictment.

According to prosecutors, Fawaz unlawfully received financial assistance for an apartment on the 100 block of Park Hill Avenue during that period through the Section 8 rental subsidy program of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

According to prior court allegations, Fawaz subleased the apartment to someone else while HUD delivered the rental money straight to the landlord.

Prosecutors claimed that the defendant embezzled his tenant’s rent money.

In September 2019, Fawaz was taken into custody following an investigation.
