Manhattan man, 20, charged after breaking into Gracie Mansion; allegedly stole Christmas ornament

Several media outlets are saying that a bold New Yorker allegedly broke into the official Upper East Side house of Hizzoner and stole a memento, despite the fact that Mayor Eric Adams has not formally approved any Gracie Mansion merchandise.

About 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Michael Aromando, 20, of Manhattan, climbed over a fence around the mansion at East 88th Street and East End Avenue and took a cellphone video of himself stealing a Christmas ornament from a drawer inside the house, according to the police.

Prosecutors claimed that Aromando was brought into police custody without incident after the mayor’s security detail saw him strolling the second floor of the building, even though Adams was allegedly not home at the time.

During his arraignment on Thursday, Aromando was charged with burglary and released on $5,000 bond. Additionally, a judge in Manhattan Criminal Court ordered him to maintain a curfew of 11 p.m. and to always keep at least one block away from Gracie Mansion.
