Matthew Huttle, who was pardoned by Trump for role in U.S. Capitol riot, killed by cop in Indiana

RENSSELAER, Indiana. A few days after being pardoned by President Donald Trump for a misdemeanor connected to the 2021 U.S. Capitol riot, a deputy shot and killed an Indiana man during a traffic check.

According to authorities, a Jasper County sheriff’s officer killed Hobart resident Matthew Huttle, 42, on Sunday.

The state police are looking into it. They said that after the deputy attempted to arrest Huttle, the suspect and the officer got into a fight, during which the officer shot the suspect, killing him.

According to state police, the inquiry also reveals that the suspect had a handgun on him at the time of the traffic stop.

No other information was made public. The reason for the traffic stop was not disclosed by the authorities.

Sheriff Patrick Williamson said, “We send our condolences to the family of the deceased because any loss of life is traumatic to those that were close to Mr. Huttle.”

Attorney Nick Barnes, who represented Huttle in ongoing Lake County auto charges, claimed he was unaware of the shooting’s specifics.

Barnes stated, “I intend to learn a great deal more about it.”

Huttle pleaded guilty in 2023 to accessing the U.S. Capitol, a prohibited building, and was given a six-month jail sentence. He had gone to the pro-Trump event in Washington on January 6, 2021, with his uncle. Huttle captured the 16 minutes he spent inside the Capitol on camera.

According to a court filing by defense lawyer Andrew Hemmer, he is not a real believer in any political cause. Since he had nothing better to do after being released from jail for a driving infraction, he chose to attend the demonstration since he believed it would be a historic occasion.
