Mets reportedly showed interest in All-Star outfielder

Since signing superstar slugger Juan Soto, the Mets have been very busy, and they haven’t slowed down in their efforts to improve their lineup.

The team expressed interest in Teoscar Hernandez, a free agent outfielder who rejoined the Dodgers last week, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

According to Heyman, Hernandez’s camp discussed a two-year contract with the Mets, but the 32-year-old wanted a three-year agreement.

Hernndez agreed to a three-year, $66 million contract with Los Angeles.

Heyman claims that although the Mets never formally extended an offer, they did instruct Hernandez to follow up if his negotiations with the Dodgers did not bear fruit.

Last season, Hernandez hit.272 with a 137 OPS+, 33 home runs, and 99 RBI.

Before Joc Pederson signed a two-year, $37 million contract with the Rangers this week, Heyman revealed last week that the Mets also expressed interest in him.

The Mets’ interest in Hernandez and Pederson indicates that they are open to using unconventional methods to bolster their lineup, whether it be by adding a regular corner outfielder/DH (Hernandez) or a platoon hitter who smacks righties (Pederson).
