New York’s Staten Island — Due to the city’s ongoing housing affordability crisis, which makes it hard for people to keep up with growing rent prices, over 15,000 New York City residents have been forced from their homes this year.
To find out how many New Yorkers were evicted from their homes in 2024, the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com recently examined residential eviction statistics from New York City’s Open statistics portal.
All residential evictions in the five boroughs from January 1 through December 18, the last date for which data was available at the time of the analysis, are included in the data set.
New York City saw 15,086 home evictions until December 18, with the Bronx accounting for the most at 4,351.
At 4,041, Brooklyn has seen the second-highest number of home evictions this year, followed by Queens (3,366), Manhattan (2,691), and Staten Island (637).
