New York’s Staten Island. The enigmatic unidentifiable drones that have been flying over various parts of New Jersey in recent weeks may have caught your attention, but did you know that Staten Island is also seeing this phenomenon?
Reports of similar drones were sent to the Advance/SILive.com from locations around the island, including the Howland Hook Marine Terminal and 1441 South Ave.
Using binoculars, former Air Force Sergeant Walter Ziegler of New Springville observed a few of the drones from his apartment complex.
According to his description, they have a red light on either side and a white light in the middle. He estimates that the drone’s span is roughly fifteen feet long. He claimed that they were all stringing out and that they were within a mile or less of his apartment.
He saw no more than five or six in one case.
This is consistent with findings from Advance/SILive.com’s sister site, NJ.com, which claims that certain drones are abnormally huge.
Ziegler went on to say that the drones seen near Howland Hook were within Newark International Airport’s glide path.
He clarified that the lights turned off when the plane really approached them and then turned back on as it passed them, tracking it all the way to the airport.
Ziegler used programs to identify that the drones weren’t helicopters because they didn’t have the transponders that are typically found on helicopters. He stated that they wouldn’t have their transponders on if they were military, but he is unsure if they have any connection to the military.
Before taking off, the drones will hover over a specific area for a predetermined period of time.
Ziegler last spotted the drones on Tuesday evening.
When did this begin?
According to NJ.com, FBI agents in New Jersey are investigating incidents in the adjacent state that New Jersey police started looking into on November 18.
Police have received reports regarding drones in Morris County’s Chester, Randolph, Rockaway, Morris Plains, Dover, Parsippany, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, and Morristown. According to NJ.com, reports have also been made to authorities in Warren County and Somerset County villages of Hillsborough and Branchburg.
These sites are close to Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster and Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County, both of which now have a ban on drones flying over them.
The drones’ origin is unclear, but according to New Jersey law enforcement officials, citizens are not in danger.
