N.Y. Gov. Hochul says employees can file workers’ comp for work-related stress

New York’s Staten Island — New legislation that will enable workers in New York to seek workers’ compensation following extreme working stress was signed by Governor Kathy Hochul on Saturday.

Previously, this kind of benefit could only be applied for by specific first responders.

According to Hochul, New Yorkers put forth a lot of effort at work, and people who have gone through the unimaginable at work should be paid decently.Since the COVID-19 outbreak, our nation has seen an unparalleled mental health crisis, and we must do everything within our ability to support people who are in need. I will always stand up for New York’s working class.

This bill is a component of the governor’s plan to spend $1 billion on healthcare.

In her January 2024 State of the State address earlier this year, Hochul laid forth a strategy for tackling youth mental health in the state.
