In an effort to curb cell phone theft, Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton (D-23/Southern Brooklyn) recently introduced a new law that Governor Kathy Hochul just signed into law.
Legislation S7739B/A8994A was primarily sponsored by Senator Scarcella-Spanton. By mandating that cellular service providers turn off services to stolen phones, the bill—also referred to as Detective Brian Simonsen’s Law—aims to combat cell phone theft.
