N.Y. Gov. Hochul urges residents to prepare for winter storm; upstate to get 2 feet of snow

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Governor Hochul is warning citizens of New York to get ready for a winter storm that is expected to hit the state on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the five boroughs of New York City are already experiencing the moderate effects of a bomb cyclone that is expected to deliver strong winds and rain.

Strong winds are expected to enter the region later Wednesday and persist overnight into Thursday, as Hochul has warned. These high winds have the potential to throw out electricity and scatter loose Christmas decorations.

The Mohawk Valley, Central New York, the Southern Tier, and the North Country are some of the areas that may see heavy snowfall on Wednesday night. During the evening commute, this heavy, wet snow may cause power outages and impair visibility.

Additionally, regions east of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie are predicted to get lake effect snow as a result of this winter storm. According to Hochul’s announcement, up to two feet of snow is expected to fall on the Buffalo and Watertown areas.
