According to lottery authorities, a player in the New York Lottery has won $1 million for correctly matching the first five numbers in a Powerball drawing.
On May 27, Ricky Alessi of St. James, New York, bought a ticket at Liqurium, which is situated at 430-04 North Country Rd. in St. James, and matched the numbers.
The winning numbers were Powerball 21, 9, 30, 39, 49, and 59.
After the necessary withholdings, Alessi chose to receive a single lump-sum payout of $651,000.
In the Powerball game, the winning numbers are selected from a range of 1 to 69. A different field ranging from 1 to 26 is used to select the Powerball number. Players must match the red Powerball number and all five white balls in any order to win the jackpot.
Every day of the week, Powerball tickets are available for $2 at any New York Lottery shop. On draw nights, tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m.
The New York Lottery encourages players to purchase tickets in advance to avoid last-minute lineups for the drawings, which take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 11 p.m.
Through the New York Lottery app, players can safely check their tickets.
