N.Y. weather: NYC about to experience another cold front; wintry mix on Sunday?

New York’s Staten Island. Even though it was a little warmer than what we’ve seen in the past few days, the area should expect a cold front to continue moving in this week, so you’ll want to have your winter jackets and caps close at hand.

According to National Weather Service meteorologist David Roth, the front is still to the west, but it is predicted to move through the city late Monday afternoon into early evening, with temperatures in the low 40s before dropping to 25 degrees by about 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Since there is a 20% chance of snow showers after 3 p.m., temperatures are only predicted to return to about 32 degrees by Tuesday afternoon. With a west wind blowing between 17 and 24 mph, it will be a little windy. By midnight, the temperature will drop back to about 22 degrees, and by Wednesday afternoon, it will only reach about 33 degrees.

Although there is a risk of a snow shower or flurries due to the current chilly temperatures, Roth clarified that any accumulation would be negligible because the next possibility of precipitation in the area would be rain on Saturday night.

According to Roth, we’re essentially back with an air mass that was just as frigid as it was a few days ago. After a period of better weather, this will conclude Thursday morning.

The weather service predicts that Thursday will be primarily sunny with a high of about 33 degrees.

Nevertheless, with highs of about 41 degrees and lows of 24 degrees by Sunday evening, there is a remote risk that a potential so-called wintry mix will move into the region on Sunday.

However, Roth cautioned that since another front is anticipated to enter the region by the end of the week, it is too early to be entirely certain of that prediction.
