New York’s Staten Island — Because the Nerf Barrage youth cycling helmets, which are only available at Walmart, don’t adhere to federal safety regulations, Todson has recalled them.
In addition to failing to protect the wearer in the case of a crash, the recalled helmets may cause a head injury because they do not meet retention system criteria, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The helmets are size medium, featuring an orange buckle, black straps, and a recognizable blue and orange appearance. On the sides of the helmet, the word “NERF” is inscribed in white letters.
Two distinct LOT and REF numbers can be found on a label inside the impacted helmets, and the model 6011 is printed on the label:
-
LOT # BC01BJ01-200623 with REF # 5382-BL
-
LOT # BC01BJ01-111521 with REF # 4970-BL
Between January 2022 and May 2024, the helmets were offered for sale at Walmart and online at Walmart.com for about $30 each. China-based Jingzhou Taike Sports Equipment Co. Ltd. produced them, and Foxboro, Massachusetts-based Todson Inc. imported them.
In told, the recall affects about 6,500 helmets. Although there have been no reports of injuries thus far, users are advised to cease using the helmets right away.
Customers must cut off the helmet’s straps and take a picture of the damaged helmet in order to receive a refund. Sending the picture to [email protected] is required.
Customers are given instructions on how to properly dispose of the helmet once proof of destruction has been verified.
Additionally, Todson will make direct contact with every known buyer to make sure they are informed of the recall.
Customers can reach Todson via phone at 800-278-2565, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT, and request to talk with customer care; they can also email Todson at [email protected], visit www.todson.com/NerfHelmetRecallorwww.todson.com, and select Recall at the top of the page.
