NY weather: Be prepared for heavy snow in New York Wednesday midday

At 11:41 a.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a weather alert for Tompkins, Cortland, Chenango, Otsego, Broome, and Delaware counties, predicting heavy snowfall through 12:45 p.m.

“At 11:41 a.m., a band of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Meredith to Lisle and moving southeast at 25 MPH,” according to the meteorological service.

Binghamton, Johnson City, Oneonta, Norwich, Kirkwood, Conklin, Sidney, Walton, Delhi, and Guilford are among the places affected by the alert. This comprises the following highway exits: Interstate 88 between 1 and 17; New York Interstate 81 between 1 and 9; and Interstate 86/Route 17 close to 71 North and between 72 and 84.

The weather service states that “in winter weather conditions, conditions can deteriorate rapidly.” Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive through or into this area of deep snow, proceed with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
