NY weather: Lake effect snow warning affecting Erie and Genesee counties until early Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service declared a lake effect snow warning for Erie and Genesee counties on Monday at 1:39 p.m., which would last until Tuesday at 4 a.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service remarks. In the most persistent lake snows, additional snow accumulations range from 4 to 8 inches, increasing storm totals to between 6 and 12 inches. Snow will blow and drift due to wind gusts of up to 35 mph.

The roads will be coated in snow, making travel challenging. Visibility will be greatly diminished in areas where snow is blowing. The meteorological service said the dangerous circumstances will affect the commute on Monday night. “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
