The National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning for Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties on Sunday at 3:30 a.m., which was in force from Monday at 4 p.m. until Wednesday at 1 p.m.
“Heavy lake effect snow expected,” the weather service said. The most persistent lake snows accumulate 1 to 2 feet of snow overall. Snow could blow and drift due to winds that could gust up to 35 mph.
“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the roadways, travel will be extremely challenging. The weather service reports that the dangerous circumstances will affect commutes on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions. The weather during lake effect snow might range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly impaired visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
