NY weather: Lake effect snow warning for Oswego and Lewis counties until Monday evening

The National Weather Service declared a lake effect snow warning for Oswego and Lewis counties on Sunday at 9:53 p.m., which would last until Monday at 7 p.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service reports. The most persistent lake snows accumulate an additional 3 to 6 inches of snow.

Occasionally, snowfall and wind will cause visibility to go below a quarter mile. With significant snow cover on the roads and extremely low visibility, travel will be extremely challenging,” the weather agency says. “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather. Postpone all travel. If you have to travel, drive very carefully. Carry a snow storm kit containing blankets, additional clothes, a flashlight, a shovel, tire chains, booster cables, and other necessities. Additionally, include non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit, and anything else you might need to survive if you get stuck.
