NY weather: Look for freezing rain and snow in New York until Sunday night

At 4:51 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a weather alert for Yates, Seneca, Cayuga, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, and Tompkins counties, warning of freezing rain and snow through 10 p.m.

“Late this afternoon and evening, a mild mix of valley rain, sleet, snow, and freezing rain is falling throughout the region. With temperatures in the upper 20s, the greatest risk will be the possibility of patchy icing from freezing rain, particularly over higher elevations. In most places, the amount of snow and ice that accumulates will be little, ranging from a thin layer to two inches. Untreated roads and surfaces may become slick as a result of this snow and ice. The weather service advises being cautious when driving or going outside this evening.
