NY weather: New York under a lake effect snow warning from Monday to Thursday

At 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning for Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Erie counties, which would be in effect from Monday at 1 p.m. until Thursday at 4 a.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow expected,” the weather service said. In the most persistent lake snows, the total snow accumulation ranges from 8 to 16 inches. Snow could blow and drift due to winds that could gust up to 35 mph.

“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the roadways, travel will be extremely challenging. The weather service also states that the dangerous circumstances will affect commutes on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions.
