NY weather: Prepare for heavy snow in New York Saturday midday

At 10:56 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a bulletin predicting significant snowfall in Saratoga, Schenectady, Albany, Rensselaer, and Columbia counties through midday.

The weather service reported that “a band of moderate to locally heavy snow was over Clifton Park moving southeast at 25 MPH” at 10:53 a.m.

Interstate 90 between exits 10 and 25; Interstate 890 between exits 4b and 9; Interstate 87 between exits 21A and 7; and Interstate 87 between exits 8A and 12 are all included in this. Additional snow accumulations on Interstate 787 between exits 1 and 9 will vary from a dusting to 0.5 inches.

In the following areas, expect significant snowfall:

  • Clifton Park around 11 a.m.

  • Cohoes around 11:05 a.m.

  • Latham around 11:10 a.m.

  • Troy, Watervliet, Colonie, Menands, Green Island, and Loudonville around 11:15 a.m.

  • Albany around 11:20 a.m.

  • Rensselaer, Wynantskill, and Wyantskill around 11:25 a.m.

  • East Greenbush and West Sand Lake around 11:35 a.m.

“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service says. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. To get to your destination, slow down and give yourself more time.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
