NY weather: Prepare for heavy snow in New York Wednesday midday

At 11:59 a.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service issued a bulletin predicting significant snowfall in Schoharie, Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, and Columbia counties through 12:30 p.m.

“At 11:59 a.m., a band of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Mechanicville to near Davenport and moving east at 80 MPH,” according to the weather service.

The following roadways are included in this: Interstate 88 close to exit 25. Between exits 10 and 25a on Interstate 90. Interstate 87 from exits 21B and 7 and between exits 8A and 9; Interstate 890 from exits 2b to 9; and Interstate 787 from exits 1 to 9.

In the following areas, expect significant snowfall:


  • Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Rotterdam, Cohoes, Watervliet, Colonie, Mechanicville, Hoosick Falls, and Latham around 12:05 p.m.

  • Delmar, Menands, Gilboa, Wynantskill, Center Brunswick, Livingstonville, and Preston-Potter Hollow around 12:10 p.m.

  • Bennington, Rensselaer, Westerlo, Grafton, Wyantskill, Preston Hollow, and Feura Bush around 12:15 p.m.

  • East Greenbush, West Sand Lake, Selkirk, and Averill Park around 12:20 p.m.

  • Berlin and Castleton-On-Hudson around 12:25 p.m.

In cold weather conditions, things might quickly get worse. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there.
