The National Weather Service issued an updated strong wind warning for Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, and Chautauqua counties on Sunday at 9:07 p.m., which is in effect from Monday at 7 a.m. to Tuesday at 6 a.m.
“Southwest winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph are expected,” the weather agency warns. The counties of Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, and western Monroe are most likely to see the strongest gusts.
“Power wires and trees will be toppled by strong winds. There may likely be intermittent power disruptions. It will be challenging to travel, particularly for well-known cars,” the weather agency says. “Avoid being outside near trees and in wooded regions. Avoid windows during the windstorm and try to stay in the lower floors of your house. If you have to drive, exercise caution.
