NY weather update: High wind warning affecting St. Lawrence and Franklin counties until 1 a.m. Tuesday

On Monday at 1:52 p.m., the National Weather Service issued an updated strong wind warning for St. Lawrence and Franklin counties, which will remain in force until Tuesday at 1 a.m.

“Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph,” the weather service report states. “Winds gusts will be strongest between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m.”

Trees and electricity wires will be toppled by damaging winds. There will likely be widespread power outages. The weather agency warns that travel will be challenging, particularly for well-known automobiles. “It’s advisable to stay indoors and stay away from windows during the hardest winds. Keep an eye out for tree limbs and other debris. If you have to drive, drive carefully. It is advised that people secure any loose items that might be damaged or blown about by the wind.
