NY weather update: Jefferson County under a high wind warning until Tuesday morning

The National Weather Service issued an updated strong wind warning for Jefferson County on Monday at 12:54 p.m., which will remain in force until Tuesday at 6 a.m.

Be prepared for “Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph,” according to the weather service. Near the shore of Lake Ontario, the winds will be the fiercest.

“Power wires and trees will be toppled by strong winds. There may likely be intermittent power disruptions. Travel will be challenging, particularly for well-known cars, the weather service said. “Avoid being outside near trees and in wooded regions. Avoid windows during the windstorm and try to stay in the lower floors of your house. If you have to drive, exercise caution.
