The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties at 12:58 p.m. on Tuesday, which is in effect until 7 p.m.
“Moderate lake effect snow,” the weather agency said. The most persistent lake snows accumulate an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow. This afternoon, a lake band will return to the warning area, and later that evening, they will travel north of the cautioned area.
“There are times when traveling can be really challenging. Tuesday evening travel will be impacted by the dangerous circumstances. The weather service warns that gusty winds might bring down tree branches and result in localized power outages from Wednesday through Thursday. Road conditions and visibility might change quickly in narrow bands of heavy snow. There may be issues with local travel.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
