The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties on Monday at 3:40 a.m., which is in effect from 1 p.m. to Wednesday at 7 a.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow expected,” the weather service said. The northern part of Tug Hill to the Watertown area had the largest accumulations of snow, with total accumulations ranging from two to three feet in the most persistent lake snows.

According to the weather service, “travel will be very difficult with very poor visibility and deep snow cover on roads.” “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather.
