NY weather update: Lake effect snow warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties until Wednesday morning

The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties on Monday at 10:10 p.m., which will remain in place until Wednesday at 7 a.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow expected,” the weather service said. The northern part of Tug Hill, the southern suburbs of the Watertown region, and the central part of Lewis County had the largest accumulations of snow, which ranged from two to three feet overall in the most persistent lake snows.

“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the highways, travel will be extremely difficult to impossible. The meteorological agency says that certain important roads, like Interstate 81, may close for a while. “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather. Until the weather improves, you should remain inside. Wear layers if you must go outside. A bulky coat won’t keep you as warm as multiple layers of clothing. To lower the risk of hypothermia or frostbite, cover any exposed skin. Wearing a hat, scarf, and gloves will prevent you from losing body heat.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
