The National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties on Tuesday at 11:49 a.m., which will remain in place until Wednesday at 7 a.m.
“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service remarks. In the most persistent lake snows, there are additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet from Watertown southward, with smaller amounts farther north and east.
“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the highways, travel will be extremely difficult to impossible. The meteorological agency says that certain important roads, like Interstate 81, may close for a while. “Relatively narrow bands of heavy snow will fall. When traveling, be ready for quickly shifting visibility and road conditions.
