NY weather update: Lake effect snow warning issued for Erie and Genesee counties until early Wednesday morning

At 3:40 a.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Erie and Genesee counties, which was in force from 10 a.m. to Wednesday at 4 a.m.

“Heavy lake effect snow expected,” the weather service said. In the most persistent lake snows, the total snow accumulation ranged from 10 to 29 inches, with the largest accumulations coming from South Buffalo over the Buffalo Southtowns into southwestern Genesee County.

According to the weather service, “travel will be very difficult with very poor visibility and deep snow cover on roads.” “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather.
