At 4:37 p.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued an updated lake effect snow warning for Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Erie counties, which would last until 4 a.m. on Thursday.

“Heavy lake effect snow,” the weather service reports. The most persistent lake snows accumulate an additional 6 to 12 inches of snow.

“With extremely poor visibility and heavy snow cover on the roadways, travel will be extremely challenging. The weather agency says, “The Tuesday evening commute will be affected by the hazardous conditions.” “The weather during lake effect snow can range from dry conditions a few kilometers distant to bands of locally heavy snow with significantly limited visibility. Be ready for sudden changes in road conditions, visibility, and weather.
