NY weather: Weather alert for heavy snow in Sullivan County until 2 a.m. Saturday

At 1:54 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service reported that Sullivan County would have heavy snow through 2:45 a.m.

“At 1:54 a.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Rutledgedale to near Montrose and moving southeast at 40 MPH,” according to the meteorological service.

Lackawaxen, Honesdale, Damascus, Jackson, Shohola, Forest City, Tusten, Waymart, New Milford, and Vandling are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between 217 and 223.

The weather service states that “in winter weather conditions, conditions can deteriorate rapidly.” Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive into or through this area of heavy snow, go with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
