NY weather: Weather alert for heavy snow in Tioga and Broome counties Sunday morning

At 6:41 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a weather alert for Tioga and Broome counties, warning of heavy snow through 7:30 a.m.

According to the weather service, “at 6:39 a.m., an area of moderate to heavy snow was near Owego moving east at 40 MPH.”

Binghamton, Vestal, Johnson City, Endicott, Kirkwood, Conklin, Maine, Owego, Nanticoke, and Port Dickinson are among the places affected by the alert. New York Interstate 81 between 1 and 7, Interstate 86/Route 17 between 63 and 78, and Interstate 88 between 1 and 5 are all included in this.

“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service continues. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive into or through this area of heavy snow, go with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
