NY weather: Weather alert issued for heavy snow in New York early Monday evening

At 5:10 p.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service reported that Rensselaer, Columbia, Dutchess, and Washington counties would get significant snowfall through 5:45 p.m.

“At 5:10 p.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near West Wardsboro to Conway to Northwest Harwinton and moving east at 35 MPH,” according to the weather service.

In the following areas, expect significant snowfall:

  • Canton, New Hartford, Newfane, New Hartford Center, Northwest Harwinton, and Guilford Center around 5:15 p.m.

  • Brattleboro, Vernon, Chesterfield, and Hinsdale around 5:20 p.m.

  • Putney and Westmoreland around 5:25 p.m.

“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service continues. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. To get to your destination, slow down and give yourself more time.
