At 7:45 a.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued a bulletin predicting significant snowfall in Tompkins, Cortland, Tioga, and Broome counties through 8:45 a.m.
“At 7:44 a.m., a band of heavy snow along a line from Tompkins County through Broome County was moving southeast at 25 MPH,” according to the weather service.
Binghamton, Johnson City, Kirkwood, Conklin, Maine, Lansing, Caroline, Dryden, Nanticoke, and Port Dickinson are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: New York Interstate 86/Route 17 from 70 North to 79; Interstate 81 from 1 to 7; and Interstate 88 from 1 to 4.
“If you have to travel into or through this band of heavy snow, exercise extra caution,” the weather service cautions. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
