At 12:49 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a weather alert for Tioga, Broome, Delaware, and Sullivan counties, predicting severe snowfall through 1:45 a.m.
“At 12:48 a.m., an area of heavy snow was along a line extending from near Corbett to near South Danby and moving southeast at 40 MPH,” according to the National Weather Service.
Binghamton, Vestal, Johnson City, Endicott, Kirkwood, Conklin, Maine, Liberty, South Fallsburg, and Callicoon are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: Interstate 86/Route 17 between 66 and 94, close to 100, and between 101 and 103; Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between 223 and 230; New York Interstate 81 between 1 and 6.
“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service says. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. Reduce your speed and give yourself more time to get there. If you have to drive into or through this area of heavy snow, go with additional caution. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
