NY weather: Weather alert issued for lake effect snow in Erie County Thursday night

At 8:04 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a report predicting lake effect snow in Erie County through 9:15 p.m.

“A lake effect snow band covered downtown Buffalo and the Buffalo northtowns at 8:00 p.m. Around 9 p.m., the band will move southward, centered across Orchard Park, West Seneca, and the Buffalo southtowns, after staying almost motionless for the following hour, according to the weather service.

Buffalo, Cheektowaga, West Seneca, Kanmore, Depew, Tonawanda, Amherst, Lancaster, Hamburg, East Aurora, Williamsville, Grand Island, Elma, Marilla, Orchard Park, Akron, Erie Basin Marina, and Small Boat Harbor are among the places affected by the alert. Interstate 90 between exits 49 and 57 is included in this.

The weather service states that “in winter weather conditions, conditions can deteriorate rapidly.” Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. To get to your destination, slow down and give yourself more time.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
