NY weather: Wind advisory for New York until early Tuesday evening

At 2:52 a.m. on Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Schoharie, Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany, Rensselaer, Greene, Columbia, and Ulster counties. The advisory was in effect from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

“West to northwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 50 mph expected,” the weather service explains. “There may be sporadic snow showers continuing in some places, particularly into mid-morning. Patches of blowing snow caused by strong gusts may drastically reduce visibility. Be especially careful when commuting in the early.

“Unsecured objects will be buffeted by gusty gusts. According to the weather service, there may be a few power outages and tree branches that are blown down. Strong winds like these can make driving challenging, particularly for well-known cars. Be especially careful. Protect outdoor items.

United Robots offers a service called Advance Local Weather Alerts that gathers the most recent information from the National Weather Service using machine learning.
