NYC Council hosts its first celebration of Sri Lankan Independence Day

New York’s Staten Island. As the City Council commemorated Sri Lankan Independence Day on Monday, a well-known immigrant community from Staten Island had their day at City Hall.

Speaker Adrienne Adams (D-Queens), Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks (D-North Shore), Councilwoman Rita Joseph (D-Brooklyn), Councilman Shekar Krishnan (D-Queens), and Councilwoman Lynn Schulman (D-Queens) led the Council’s first commemoration of the South Asian island nation’s Independence Day.
