NYC public schools have these 2 days off in January

New York’s Staten Island. Public schoolchildren in New York City have just returned from winter vacation, but they will get two more days off in January.

The academic calendar of the city department of education for the 2024–2025 school year states that students will have two holidays off.

Both Monday, January 20, which is Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Wednesday, January 29, which is Lunar New Year, will see schools closed.

Between the first and last day of classes, the city academic calendar allows for about two dozen days off.

The calendar includes weeklong vacations for winter, mid-winter, and spring recess, which includes Christmas and Passover, as well as time off for religious festivals including Good Friday, Yom Kippur, and Eid al-Fitr. Additionally, Diwali is now a public school holiday.

Additionally, the school calendar permits vacation time on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Election Day, Thanksgiving, Italian Heritage Day, and Indigenous Peoples Day (Columbus Day).

The calendar also shows the dates of the elementary, middle, and high school parent-teacher conferences.

The remainder of the 2024–2025 school year offers pupils lots of time off, with weeklong vacations for spring recess in April and mid-winter recess in February.

For those who are already looking forward to summer, Thursday, June 26, 2025, is the last day of courses.
