In a shocking and tragic incident, a teenager has been arrested in connection with a triple shooting in Manhattan that resulted in the deaths of two men, one of whom was a cherished employee at a local pizza joint. The 16-year-old suspect, who has no prior criminal history, was taken into custody by the US Marshals Service at an apartment complex on Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. He now faces two counts of second-degree murder and two charges of weapons possession.
The shooting took place late Sunday night, around 11:45 p.m., near West 207 Street and 10th Avenue in Inwood. The victims, identified as Alejandro Ramirez, 40, and James Michael, 44, both of the Bronx, were critically injured in the attack. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rushed them to local hospitals, but despite the medical intervention, neither man survived.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are still investigating whether the suspect had any prior connection to the victims. The NYPD has not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the possible reasons behind it.
The death of Alejandro Ramirez has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly among those who frequented Johnny’s Pizza on Dyckman Street, where Ramirez worked. Ramirez was widely known and loved for his generous spirit and kind heart. He often provided food to anyone hungry, regardless of their financial situation.
“Me and my daughter cried for him — he was a very, very good person,” neighbor Dielka Sanchez recounted tearfully. “Whether you had money or not, he always gave you the pizza. He used to say, ‘Friend, don’t worry!’”
Many local teens shared similar memories of Ramirez’s kindness. One young resident recalled, “He provided us pizza, even when we didn’t have money.” Another described Ramirez as a “good man” who consistently looked out for his community.
Diego, a local liquor store owner, remembered Ramirez for his camaraderie and generosity towards his colleagues. “The neighborhood is very sad because he was loved,” Diego said, noting that Ramirez would often buy drinks for the pizza place workers despite not drinking himself.
In the aftermath of the shooting, an impromptu, candle-lit street memorial has been set up in honor of Ramirez. Community members have been gathering to pay their respects, leaving flowers, candles, and notes to commemorate the life of a man who had touched many lives with his kindness.
Johnny’s Pizza also expressed their grief and condolences through a heartfelt Facebook post, mourning the loss of their cherished colleague and friend. The post reflected the deep sense of loss felt by the staff and the wider community.
