NYC weather: Timeline for winter rain storm forecast for Friday

New York’s Staten Island. If you are planning anything, bring an umbrella. It is predicted to rain throughout the day on Friday night, which is badly needed.

As early as three in the morning, rain is predicted to arrive in the region. However, Matthew Wunsch, a National Weather Service meteorologist, says it’s much more likely that homeowners will get rain on Friday between 7-8 a.m.

“There really isn’t a concern for freezing rain because temperatures should be just above freezing for the majority of the New York City area,” Wunsch added. Although it’s not entirely out of the question, it appears that the New York City Metro will essentially experience rain.

It is predicted that the rain will continue well into the day and pick up speed in the afternoon. According to Wunsch, this consistent precipitation will last into the evening and into the afternoon.

The rain will eventually slow down and stop in the early hours of Saturday morning, according to Wunsch.

In general, we anticipate about 0.5 inches of precipitation,” Wunsch continued. Particularly for more southern regions, such as Staten Island, southern Brooklyn, or southern Queens, you might receive up to three-quarters of an inch of rain, which is a bit more than, say, the Bronx or Manhattan.

New York City, which has only received 0.45 inches of precipitation this January, is in dire need of the expected rainfall. This indicates that the city is currently 3 inches behind its monthly normal as of Thursday morning.

This would be the driest January in New York City history if this storm just vanished. Only 0.58 inches of rain fell in January 1981, the month that currently holds the distinction.
