NYPD: Gun fired in popular shopping plaza on Staten Island; man, 23, arrested

New York’s Staten Island. The NYPD reported that a guy was taken into custody after he allegedly fired a gun in the middle of the day in the parking lot of an Eltingville shopping complex.

A person with knowledge of the case told the Advance/SILive.com that witnesses told police that the suspect pointed the gun at a 14-year-old boy.

Patrol Borough Staten Island posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that officers from the 122nd Precinct responded to an emergency report regarding gunfire in Greenridge Plaza.

Our officers from the @NYPD122Pct received an emergency call about gunfire at Greenridge Plaza earlier this evening.Several units came forward.A firearm was found, an arrest was made, and no officers or members of the public were hurt.

According to an NYPD spokeswoman, officers were called to the scene at Richmond Avenue and Arthur Kill Road at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Sunday.

According to the police spokesperson, a firearm was found and a 23-year-old male was arrested without any more incidents.

According to authorities, the NYPD was not notified of any injuries or property damage.

According to the NYPD post on X, many units responded. A firearm was found and an arrest was made without any officers or members of the public being hurt.

On Sundays, a few of the stores are either closed or have restricted hours.

When mall employees learned that a gun had been fired in the parking lot on Monday, they were astonished.

Have you fired a gun? Fadi, who was not at his job at T-Mobile at the time of the incident, added, “That’s crazy.”

Fadi, however, claimed he occasionally saw individuals battling for parking spaces and characterized the lot as quite crowded.

He occasionally witnesses boisterous kids playing, but this was the first time he had heard of gunfire or any other serious crime at the mall.

Ann, who works at Richmond Wines and Liquors but wasn’t there when the gunfire started, thinks the mall is safe in general.

We haven’t really experienced any major problems here in my five years here, Ann stated.

You feel a little safer because a security person typically patrols the lot, she said.
