STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Willowbrook resident Kathleen Murphy, 64, has been named by police as the pedestrian who was murdered Wednesday morning after she was struck by a car on the grounds of Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze.

At approximately 6:45 a.m., Murphy was heading from the parking lot toward the building at 242 Mason Ave. when he was struck by a Volkswagen SUV, according to a representative for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

A 67-year-old man was driving the Volkswagen southwest on the parking lot access road when he struck Murphy, who was walking north, according to the NYPD’s Highway District Collision inquiry Squad’s inquiry.

A representative for Staten Island University Hospital expressed the hospital’s profound sadness at the tragic incident that took place there today. We are sending the family and our team members our deepest sympathies during this trying time. We are still dedicated to helping those impacted get through this tragedy. We are also completely assisting the police in their current investigation.

Murphy worked for the hospital, according to a source who spoke to Advance/SILive.com. That fact was not immediately confirmed by the spokesperson.

According to authorities, the investigation is still underway and no one has been arrested as of yet.
