NYPD: Man, 51, in critical condition after pedestrian crash on Staten Island

New York’s Staten Island. Police in West Brighton say a 51-year-old man is critically injured after being hit by a car during Monday morning rush hour while crossing the street.

According to initial information given to a spokeswoman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information, the pedestrian collision occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. near Forest Avenue and Raymond Place.

According to the initial investigation, the man was using the crosswalk to cross the street. According to the police spokeswoman, he was hit by a white Mazda SUV turning left from Forest Avenue onto Raymond Place as he was crossing Raymond Place while heading east on Forest Avenue.

According to authorities, the male had a head injury and was transported by emergency medical services to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton.

The Mazda’s driver stayed on the scene.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, no criminal activity is now suspected.

The Highway District Collision Investigation Squad of the New York Police Department was present.

Alarming series of pedestrian crashes

The incident is the most recent in a concerning string of pedestrian-related collisions on Staten Island.

On December 20, an automobile struck a 68-year-old man on Charleston’s Arthur Kill Road, injuring him.

Around 4 p.m., a collision happened on Arthur Kill near Industrial Loop.

According to an NYPD spokesperson, the victim was taken by EMS to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, while the driver stayed at the site.

At the scene, a white vehicle with a broken front windshield was visible.

On December 19, just before 8:50 a.m., a 51-year-old lady was struck by a car and sent to the hospital near the intersection of Winant Avenue and Mason Boulevard in Rossville. The woman’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, and her condition was reported as stable.

On Staten Island, pedestrians have suffered serious or fatal injuries in at least six collisions in recent months.
