STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 68-year-old man was hurt Friday afternoon after being struck by a car on Arthur Kill Road in Charleston, continuing the borough’s worrying trend of pedestrians being hit by cars.
Around 4 p.m., a collision happened on Arthur Kill near Industrial Loop.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, the victim was taken by EMS to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze, while the driver stayed at the site.
At the scene, a white vehicle with a broken front windshield was visible.
At the scene, the victim—a school bus driver—was still conscious.
Additional information regarding the collision was not provided by the police spokesperson.
Pedestrian crashes
The incident is the most recent in a concerning string of pedestrian-related collisions on Staten Island.
The most recent incident happened on Thursday just before 8:50 a.m. close to the intersection of Winant Avenue and Mason Boulevard in Rossville. A 51-year-old lady was struck by a car and rushed to the hospital. The woman’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening, and her condition was reported as stable.
On Staten Island, however, at least six collisions in the last six weeks have resulted in pedestrians suffering life-threatening or deadly injuries.
