According to TMZ, legendary musician Elton John declared he had lost his vision after fighting a serious eye infection.
Following Sunday’s premiere of the new musical The Devil Wears Prada at London’s Dominion Theatre, which is based on the well-loved 2006 film that follows a young assistant navigating the challenges of working for her demanding boss at a high-profile fashion magazine, the legendary star, 77, broke the devastating news to the audience at a charity event.
The I’m Still Standing actor said that his hubby, David Furnish, has been his rock and thanked him for his support.
As you are aware, I am blind, therefore I haven’t been able to attend many of the previews. John, who composed the show’s music, stated, “I find it difficult to see it.” However, I enjoy listening to music, and tonight it sounded fantastic.
John disclosed last week in an appearance with Good Morning America that his visual impairment had impacted his capacity to work.
Unfortunately, I had an infection in the south of France in July that caused me to lose my vision in my right eye. I haven’t been able to see for four months, and my left eye isn’t the best, he added. There’s hope and encouragement that everything will work out, but I’m kind of trapped right now because, although I can do something like this (the interview), I’m not sure how I’ll walk into the studio and record it because I can’t see the lyrics to begin with.
In September, the Rocket Man actor revealed on his Instagram page that he had been struggling with a serious eye infection that had left him with very limited vision in one eye.
He went on to thank his family and the wonderful team of physicians and nurses for his superb medical treatment, saying, “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”
