For the first time in almost twenty years, a well-known indie rock band is getting back together.
According to billboards that have just surfaced in southern California, Rilo Kiley is set to perform at the Just Like Heaven music event in Los Angeles, according to Spinmagazine. The roster seems to feature Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun, Bloc Party, TV on the Radio, Courtney Barnett, Grouplove, and Slowdive, though an official announcement has apparently been postponed because to the wildfires in Los Angeles.
According to its website, Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena is scheduled to host the 2000s indie/alternative rock nostalgia-heavy concert on May 10. The cost of the tickets and when they will go on sale are still unknown.
Jenny Lewis hasn’t played with her previous ensemble since 2008, thus the reunion of Rilo Kiley is generating early hype. Between 2001 and 2007, the band—which included drummer Jason Boesel, bassist Pierre de Reeder, and guitarist Blake Sennett—released four highly regarded albums.
Lewis initially gained notoriety as an actress but is now also well-known for her solo work and partnerships with musicians such as the Watson Twins and The Postal Service (which features Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie). In addition to Lucille Ball’s 1980s television series Life with Lucy, the former child star had notable appearances in films such as The Wizard (starring Fred Savage), Troop Beverly Hills (starring Shelley Long), and Big Girls Don’t Cry… They Get Even.
Stereogum claims that when Rilo Kiley began releasing new merchandise on Bandcamp and changing their profile picture on music streaming platforms last year, fans began to hope for a reunion. It appears that she and the other boys are getting back together for more performances. Lewis and Sennett performed together at Coachella in 2015 and at Linda Perry’s Rock-N-Relief benefit concert in 2021.
Many of the same groups that perform at Just Like Heaven will also be playing in Salt Lake City’s Kilby Block Party the following weekend in May, according to Spin. Additionally, the festival website features a placeholder for an act that supporters believe will be Rilo Kiley and will be announced soon.
