Pro fisherman and popular YouTuber arrested for fishing tournament fraud

According to an article in The Daily Sentinel, a Texas professional fisherman who gained notoriety on YouTube was recently jailed on a misdemeanor charge after allegedly faking a contest entry form.

According to the article, Bassmaster Elite Series angler Ben Milliken was arrested late last week in Nacogdoches County and charged with freshwater fishing tournament fraud after it was believed that he had cheated in the Lone Star State’s ShareLunker bass program.

Milliken, 35, a native of Nebraska who now lives in New Caney, turned himself in to the police and was promptly freed.

Officials from Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPW) claim that Milliken lied on his contest registration form when catching a Legacy Class ShareLunker largemouth bass at Lake Naconiche in February of last year.

Prior to awarding program prizes at the Toyota ShareLunker Banquet this fall, Milliken was found to have knowingly fabricated the contest/tournament entry form and lacked a valid fishing license at the time the fish was captured, according to TPW spokeswoman Maggie Berger’s email.

According to Berger, he was nabbed for fishing without a legal license and automatically disqualified from the program.

In the meanwhile, Milliken said in a statement that the episode was a total misunderstanding. He maintained that the charges were unrelated to a Bassmaster Elite competition.

The incident actually happened when I was fishing for fun. And not even in a competition. I’m really excited to do a movie or videos that explain this whole thing. Milliken, who has more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers, stated that it would be preferable for him to wait because of the current inquiry (Milliken Fishing).

Milliken continued by saying that he will continue to post his YouTube videos despite his incarceration.
