After suffering from a bad migraine for several days, legendary artist Patti Smith passed out during a show in Brazil on January 29. The 78-year-old rock and poetry legend was reciting her poetry while playing with the Soundwalk Collective, a group based in Berlin.
According to the newspaper Folha de S Paulo, Smith passed out during a live music reading about the climate issue some thirty minutes into the performance. He was promptly wheeled backstage in a wheelchair, according to the Associated Press.
Smith later came back to apologize to the crowd for having to end the performance early. She told the audience, still in a wheelchair, that I was unable to finish because I became ill. We will therefore need to come up with a solution. I’m very sorry about it.
In English, the audience replied: Don’t be! We cherish you! After that, the performer performed Wing and Because the Night a cappella.
Smith was admitted to the hospital in Itlay in December 2023 due to an unexpected illness, according to the Guardian. She told the Guardians in 2020 that she stayed indoors throughout the epidemic because she had a chronic bronchial illness.
The musician shared on Instagram on January 30 that she was doing well and that the incident didn’t deserve much attention.

After being examined by a top-notch physician, I was in perfect health. This comprehensible occurrence doesn’t deserve much attention given all the conflict in the globe. I appreciate everyone’s concern. Believe me, I’m all right.
In the comments section of her social media post, fans showed relief by writing: We all love you, take care of yourself, and rest when you can. Another comment read: We love you! I hope you get well soon! I’m so excited for the next time and sending you everlasting love!
